Topping siege's popularity is very hard to do.

I played in siege since 7 years , but the last 3 years i play to mb2 because mb2 is a good mb2, has game in team , new guns, new maps , ect

MB2 is ok but has a steep learning curve. Plus there are a hell of a lot of wallhacking snipers and the community is generally unfriendly. You are right about MB3 being outdated when its released. If it is ever released. I wish Lucas would make another damn reborn boss Knight rather than fail at WoW...
