Favorite Controller of All Time?

Mouse and keyboard aside.

I was discussing this with an acquaintance today, and was wondering what other people thought. I really love the n64 controller (which also gets bonus points for popularizing the analog stick) but they thought it was the "worst controller ever made." Another person jumped in and also said that the n64 controller was unwieldy in their opinion. I just don't understand that. I've been using it since I was 5 pretty regularly, and have never had problems with little hands or adult-sized hands.

My runner up is the 3-button Genesis controller.

Majority of console controllers that I have used are fail. Analog joystick is a nice idea, implemented properly in some cases, but usually on consoles it's not. I never owned an N64 but every time I played at a friend's the joystick always seemed to be broken eg less sensitive or laggy in certain directions with too much "play" in it. My PC joystick I got 8 years ago and it still works well (though you can barely find Windows 7 drivers for it, and it certainly won't have 8 drivers).

I played piano for 10 years and I type 70wpm once I get to speed, so I don't think it's poor hand coordination.

I'm currently using dual-shock type controller for PC, which is pretty good for some SP games, as long as they are not FPS...
Regarding N64 controller, I loved it! I had my N64 at 2 years old, and player games like Donkey Kong and Extreme-G (If U did not played any of these, ur childhood was ruined). It's a pitty that there are no more chances of repairing the controllers :cry: . Mines got the analog fucked up (charachters spins like a Beyblade upon starting, if you get beyond the main menu) and I never found a place which had replacements or reaired the thing. So I got a useless, still-working N64 somewhere around my house, with my Genesis :|

I've never played any consoles all that much, but I did buy a 360 controller to yews on my computer for various games...GTA and the like.

Once I got used to it, I liked it.

I actually did own a Genesis, but can't say I was in love with the controllers....and I used to play some epic Gretzky on my homie's N64....can't say I was in love with those, either.

As far as all controllers go, aside from KB/Mouse, I would have to say my old MS Sidewinder w/feedback.

It was pretty sweet when I was playing xwing v tie, flight sims, and when I first got into like Doom and stuff....think I used it all the way up to Outcast.

@GB: The "lag" is because the n64 analog stick is not a "true" analog stick. It was almost like a trick, where it was mechanical and functioned along the same lines as a standard computer mouse! ;)

@Archi:
I still have my MS Sidewinder ForceFeedback2. Best joystick ever.

My favorite controller was the original Playstation One controller. With just the D-pads! I remember playing hours of THPS...(Which I maintain has one of the best soundtracks for any video-game) I remember when they released the dual analog sticks controllers for the PS at the end of its cycle and I was like THE FUCK IS THIS BLACK MAGYKRY!!! (You're black Magyk!!!). I still prefer the PS3 controller to any modern controller to this day.

Well aside from my 2-button+wheel/button mouse....gotta say the old school Atari controller. One stick, two axes, and one button. Simplicity in functionality.
