I was wondering what people generally think of shields. There is always a lot of drama about having a jan and placing shields, but is it actually fun to you guys? Cargo seems to do fine without shields, so I'm just wondering what people think on the matter.

Please post your reasoning as well if you are opinionated on the matter as the options I made are rather limited.

Absolutely essential to the game. It cuts down on trip spam, and defenses would more often than not be crushed without them. It allows adds a bit of tactical planning to the game. Des is probably the only map that could survive without them, excluding Cargo (and Korri.. if you're a crazy person that likes that godforsaken map..)

No one can place shields like 06 Tensor

I think they are a really good concept and add a whole new tactic/dimension to gameplay. However, you have to create the right balance in the map, the map shouldn't hinge on how good the jan is at standing on a shield, such as in hoth. Whereas on narshaddaa, shield seem to be less effective because there is more open space and it is easier for the offence to get near the jan and his prized shield. The downside to both nar and hoth in terms of shields is that on some of the objectives the jan can spawn and place an insta-shield over the objective.

That in itself spawns the entire tactic of not killing the jan though. Shield usage makes the game 50% more complex (in a good way!)

I love using your bridge shield in nub filled pubs and feeling like a boss.

Best is when someone places a shield over the stations on nar, and you just blob the obj off the shield with golan.

I try doing tensor shields and they end up right down the gap thingy.

Should just practice it in an empty server sometime, once you figure it out it's easy to do.
