Hey guys,
Exar does bring up a point that has been somewhat bothering me for some time, and I am curious what everyone else thinks.
Should we officially ban the yews of all derogatory terms in both Tempest and these forums? Possibly Impulse as well?
I personally feel we should, and this is one of the few stances on an issue I will say right off the bat, mostly because I am the one who wanted to bring this issue up.
Officially ban racial slurs and other forms of bigotry?

I agree; I also think this should include slurs such as "faggot" which are derogatory towards gay people.

As much as I disagree with racism; it's the internet.
It's someones opinion, and if they want to go around talking and looking like an idiot, it's their choice.

This is very true by the way.the internet is no safe haven for the young children, so why try to make it one?

I for one believe that this is more or less an "adult community" of gamers, and I think we can all tolerate each others views on different things.
I'm intensely against a large majority of the religions that exist, yet I tolerate and respect someone else's views on the matter. If someone else is racist, that's their opinion.
Who are we to say "No, you can't think that way."
PS: I think it should be admin's discretion on tempest whether to take action against slurrs of any kind, or if the admin receives complaints they should be obligated to take action. On Impulse or the forums, as long as nothing gets seriously out of hand then it should be allowed.

What? I don't give a fuck about young children. I do care about disrespect, racism, and bigotry.wafflz wrote:It's a word on a 5 year old game; the internet is no safe haven for the young children, so why try to make it one?
However, racist people are not showing tolerance. I do not think that anyone should be insulted in such a derogatory way by anyone.I for one believe that this is more or less an "adult community" of gamers, and I think we can all tolerate each others views on different things.

Don't you think that is insulting, and disrepectul to young children?
Looks like a bit of hypocrisy to me, though I do understand where you're coming from.

You do realize you can't just ban one single word; if we decide to abolish racism we'll never again be allowed to call wuf the chink.

I wouldn't ban the person, just implement word filters on the server/forums and edit posts if they go around word filters lol.
