Turns out cricket used to be the American national sport, but it was too British and we dominated USA at it so they changed to baseball.
This I learned when I went on the tour of Lord's cricket ground.

Soccer > Football (Though I like both)
Baseball >>> Cricket. (Also, baseball and cricket were both started in England and both derived from a game called rounders. Laser must have been misinformed.)

I wasn't misinformed, I already knew all that, but cricket was the national sport of USA in the 19th century.
Also, rounders is a fairly popular game here, Liverpool once played the USA in a game of rounders in the 19th century, followed by a game of baseball. Liverpool won comfortably in rounders and then got wooped in baseball.
Baseball is just rounders with a few different rules, a new version if you like, and early records show that rounders may have been called 'base-ball', but then simply became rounders because of the scoring system (# rounders scored).
