soccer

Post by teverlia »

What division of college soccer can a decent player play in? I play high school soccer for the Bard raptors. I'm a starter on a good team, and i play my role well, but I definately wouldn't call myself a star player. I'm also in very good shape. I want to play soccer in college but i really have no idea what division, if any, i could play for. Any suggestions?

Sefton U10s would be a good starting point.

Many kids come out of high school and were starters on good teams. Most play there position well. The college game is faster. The best kids from the best teams move on. The starters who play there position well may play small college. But understand guys who had speed enough to be forwards in high school may not be fast enough in college. Guys who thought they had good ball control in high school may not be able to play midfielder in college. Guys who had enough leg to play fullback, stopper and sweeper may not have enough for college. And as a former college goalie don't even get me started. Also remember you are not only competing with the best players you played in high school but guys with three and for years of college experience and physical development.

So your question is not so easy. In truth the guy to start with is your college coach. From there, go check out some spring games at different size schools. What a lot of schools do is let the high school kids run a few minutes with the team. That way you see were you are and so do they.

Good luck and don't give up. I didn't crack the starting line up til senior year.

Just search the internet, there are always teams on the lookout for fresh meat.

There must be an American equivalent of The FA's young team scheme.
