Not disagreeing that those missions might be bad, because I haven't played yet - but since when does old good?

I seem to remember hearing about the Jump to Lightspeed developers being their own team which had worked on several other space flight sims prior. SWG's space was pretty much standalone from the rest of the game and it was thoroughly well done. I happen to know several people who ONLY played SWG to do space, I personally was one of them for a period of time. JTL was thoroughly well done.

Picked this up a few days ago. Waited about two days for it all to download, as it refused to yews all my bandwidth. Ended up playing on some west coast US pvp server. Pretty fun so far but not much interacting with other players going on yet. Very much massively singleplayer for now.

I haven't played a single MMO that hasn't been predominantly single player until end-game content since early Everquest.

Kind of fucking dumb, IMO.

At least Republic had the good sense to not even try to pretend and instead tried to make levelling as engrossing as possible.

I think that might be why I find it so strange. My very first MMO was EQ and that has probably given me an expectation that, in MMOs, you'll pretty much be forced into grouping up with others to get things done. I do remember how rough EQ could be with solo play and I played a damn ranger.

Yeah grouping was pretty cool. It was rough having to sit around LFG, or even worse sitting there in a nearly full group just waiting for a healer, but I didn't have any problems finding people to talk to back then. Met a lot of people while levelling.

Now the only people I'd even consider talking to at all are in my guild or have been friends for years; I rarely talk to anybody outside of my tight-knit group at all. Was the same with WoW and SWG; if I was talking to you and didn't know you, I was very likely either trading with you or ridiculing you. That's not very conducive to a social atmosphere.

Oh well. That's the evolution of gaming I guess.
