When you have the league of legends client open, xfire counts it as playing the game, even if you're not in a game.

Yeah but the client for league of legends it doesn't actually yews the same amount of resources that the full game needs so you can leave it running indefinitely with little degradation of performance, kind of like leaving a web browser open.
