Just wiki'd prisons in Chile real quick like. Sounds awesome. Unsanitary conditions, over crowding, and a few incidents of prison officials being charged with negligence and abuse. I'd love to send people there. Sadly, there's something fucked up with this country where we care more about the criminal than the victim. We send our criminals to facilities to be pampered. I'd have no problem sending them to a Chilean prison, but sending them to what is generally a retirement home? I say axe the bastards.

So what do we do with people who kill people? ask them to politely stop it?

they have to pay... but kill him won't solve anything. there's always gonna be murders out there, u can't kill one by one

want a solution? doesn't exist , just be carefull

I don't know about you, but "kill and be killed" is a way better deterrent for crime (to me) then "Kill, and be sent to a place where you can eat food, sleep, shoot some hoops, visit the library, etc"

There is a solution here. You kill someone , you die. Either by capital punishment or of old age in a prison. Or you get a really good lawyer and get off like OJ or Casey Anthony.

**Edit
I honestly think we should just go to a judge dredd system.

The main thing killing a criminal does is prevent expense from maintaining him/her/it fro the rest of their lives. Though I personally feel we should step up from the appeals system we're using that takes a good decade or so from the initial ruling to actual prisoner death. Make it short and simple - if you're convicted of a criminal murder (not self-defense or car accident type, but the intent to kill for gain/revenge/fun), head from the courthouse, out around back, and shot. Simple and cheap. Unfortunately that violates the rules of lawyers and politicans - nothing is allowed to be simple or cheap. The most elaborate and expensive solution must be put into yews.

u miss the point... imo if u want someone really pay for what he did kill him is just the easy way, it's like forgive him...

So instead we should send him off to live a peachy, comfortable life inside a prison? As I've pointed out, three meals a day, warm bed, no taxes, no work, play some basketball and catch some Dr. Phil reruns. Prison isn't breaking rocks in the hot sun anymore - you can get cable internet and tv. Prisoners should not have comforts inside jail because they are being punished for what they've done to the innocent people. When my parents sent me to my room when I was younger, I didn't have a TV or have internet. I was stuck in my room staring at a wall for four hours because I did something wrong. We shouldn't pamper murderers, we should punish them.

Somehow I don't think the families of murder victims would view the execution of their loved one's killer as forgiveness.

Two sides to this discussion.

1. Sentencing people to death saves taxpayers a lot of money and it gets them off the streets for good. They definitely can't reoffend and it gives the victim's family peace of mind. Problem here is, usually it takes ages for them to go through a trial, appeals and actually get executed. Some people (not to many) get wrongly executed, and that's enough to be of a problem.

2. Human rights - are we any better off killing them - an eye for an eye? Besides, wouldn't it be better for them to rot in prison, rather than taking the easy way out by lethal injection? Problem here is, did the victim ever get a chance? And yes, it costs stacks to give them all the luxuries they don't deserve.

I'm still undecided.

I don't think death sentences reduce crime
