Sending in thousands of troops isn't likely to solve the problem either. These militants seem damn well trained, and they probably have underground networks or whatever where they can bide their time. And the fact is that if we send in thousands of troops, it'll just be adding fuel to the fire and allowing them to encourage even more Muslims to the middle east to take up arms.
Say we manage to succeed, then what? This Iraqi PM was obviously not a good leader, who do we put in his place?
How do we rectify what we messed up in the past decade? It's the same old send in troops thing, yews airstrikes etc.
If we're going to intervene, we need a damn well detailed plan of what the hell to do. Otherwise it'll just be 2003-2014 all over again.
ISIL, ISIS, Murderers, or whatever you want to call them
Re: ISIL, ISIS, Murderers, or whatever you want to call them
My two cents on the matter.
Either we go to war or we don't. None of this, beating around the bush bullshit, masquerading as war- America has been involved in Middle-Eastern Affairs for over a decade. Supposing we did go to war, [and this is assuming that our president AND Congress can stop obsessing over race-themed incidents for more than two seconds] our media would never allow massive air support-which is what is needed to end this quickly.
IF we go to war, quick and decisive action is required. With our military, this could be over in two weeks. Then again, whenever our military carries out massive air support campaigns, our media has an aneurism. Take for example the Kuwait campaign. The American Military sent in several Apache's and completely annihilated an enemy supply route. The media got wind of this and made a big fuss about it: http://www.urbanghostsmedia.com/2014/04 ... -of-death/
Hell, I live across the street from one of America's largest air force bases in the US. If we were to mobilize even half of what is housed there, this would be over in a matter of days.

This is more than just killing all the IS militants and the campaign would need to be continued until an election is held and the area is stable or you don't achieve anything, you can't kill an idea.

Turn the middle east into a radioactive glass crater. Problem solved.

I'm sure the NFL is more important than the ISIS, bees, drought, ebola, russia and flesh eating bacteria... so can we pls go back to how shitty my fantasy team did this week thanks to lonewolfmcgee cursing AJ Green?

What?

The war in Afghanistan is going on 13 years strong and the Iraq War lasted 8 years. What the hell makes you think this could be over in two weeks?
The guy above me is advocating for the destruction of the entire Middle East and somehow you still manage to come out looking like the stupidest person in this thread. You have a real talent.

This could have been over in two weeks if we acted swiftly and strongly when our Benghazi embassy was attacked and 4 Americans died. Instead our government tried to cover that up (blaming it on youtube-fueled-riots instead of terrorism??) and now here we are. Spineless leadership.

You are rather dense, aren't you. If we were to mobilize our military and yews tactics similar to that of Hitler's Blitzkrieg, this could be over in under two weeks.
The media has a stranglehold on us in case you haven't noticed.
