Some of you may have found this through Steam, as I did. Basically, you are not allowed to enact a law prohibiting minors from buying violent video games :P

Although I'm no longer a minor, I support this.

Alcohol prohibited until a certain age because it messes with your brain.
Tobacco prohibited until a certain age because it messes with your brain (and body).
Service in the military prohibited until a certain age because you can lose your brain (and body).
Games where you get extra points for driving drunk, killing innocent people, and raping prostitutes NOT prohibited because it messes with your brain...

Makes sense. Very consistent...

I'm fine with violence in video games to an extent, just like I'm fine with violence in movies or books to an extent, but when the game becomes more of a military simulator than an interactive, combat-based story, then that's a little far. Personally I am glad that I couldn't see some of the shit that's out there until I was older. Some people actually believe that they can drive drunk unimpaired because they can do it in GTA... that constitutes a problem in my book.

And if mature video games should be available to everyone because you can't stop the metaphorical free speech of the developers from being heard (aka played), then similarly you can't stop the metaphorical free speech of a brewery from being heard (aka tasted) imo. They even compare video games to movies... but... movies rated R are restricted to minors... so why shouldn't M rated games be restricted as well...

Overall seems like a lot of hypocrisy to me. But I support the general sentiment... to an extent.

IMO that level should be counted as 'mature' and as in accordance to the rating, minors can't buy. Well, 17-year-old almost non-minors can, but I think the age should be raised a little bit.

Next thing they'll say that porn is a form of artistic expression.

There's already that movement. At least with illustrated stuff. I'm personally on the bandwagon of "You're able to imagine all these things, and the best drawings you can make from them are nude ones?"

Photographers are considered artists.

What does it matter what your are taking photos of?

According to the scripture I've been taught, Eve screwed us all when she ate that fruit.
