PHP is a horribly designed language. Almost as horrible as Javascript.
There's a lot of things I would do differently if I redid the site, the first would be not using a shitty programming language.

You can't do that with CSS
This website already has CSS stylesheets, they are pattern files that allow me to quickly set the default font styles and colors of all UI elements on the site.
