Not really necessary, just a luxury.

I always found it odd that typing "an SSD" would make more sense, if not for the fact that the first word of the acronym itself begins with a consonant.

'an' sounds more appropriate, even if just from the aspect that the letter 'S' starts with a vowel sound.

I did actually get it wrong, it should have been an. :(

Sigh, so much going on at the moment it's making my brain numb. I can't wait until July, dropping down to three units in the last semester of my course.

Hijacking this thread with my life story.

This config is almost exactly what I would buy today... I would get the GEN3 version of that mobo for PCI Express 3, and the H100i vs the 80. Been keeping my eyes on things/waiting for sales.

The 7850 is a bit UP (underpowered) for most things if you plan on 1080p for the latest games. With such a high end mobo/CPU I would have expected at least a 7870 if not 7950. I have a 1GB 7850 now because it didn't make sense to get anything better when I'm still on a Phenom II.

Yes definitely needs an SSD if you don't have one. I'm using about 1/3 of my 2TB drive and don't see a reason for more... a number of smaller drives is actually more useful to me, since I install multiple OSes at any one time.

Any any case, props for supporting AMD.

Well i had a budget, so i had to stick to it. I recycled a case and a Power supply to stay under. The only games i play now days are tomb raider and minecraft so no real need for anything too powerful lol.

I worked out a deal with my brother so he will get my current system and I will upgrade. Current config looks like this:

AMD FX-6350 (released today) 6 core 3.9GHz Vishera/Piledriver (expected overclock ~4.4GHz)
Corsair Hyper 212 Evo heatsink/fan (could go with H100i, always an option)
GSkill Sniper 2x8GB DDR3-1866 CAS9
Asus M5A99FX PRO 2.0 AMD 990FX motherboard
Corsair Obsidian 550D mid ATX case, Corsair SP120 High Performance fans as required
Balance of components retained from my existing system.

Nominal total ~$575, but my brother's inputs should get it closer to the $350 range.
I could go with the 8350, but I have yet to hear of a game that makes effective yews of more than 4 cores, and I don't do much video processing, file compression, or scientific computation.
