Nah, that's not something that you really need or want for a 3.8...
My S10 has a 4.3, which is basically a 350 (5.7) with the rear two cylinders cut off.
I took the exhaust off just after the y-pipe (I was repairing the trans) and started it up just to see what it would sound like.....pretty pathetic.
My big truck has a 350 that I just recently rebuilt and it has a short exhaust system (The mufflers are pretty much right under the cab) and it literally rattles your teeth....you can't stand to be in the thing very long.
I used to have a '69 Roadrunner (with a blueprinted 383...cammed, stroked, bored...about 500HP ) and I took the pipes off at the headers for a minute.... I couldn't hear very well for a few minutes....kinda like firing a 45ACP or bigger without hearing protection.

This one looked pretty much like mine, only mine had a big 4BBL( dunno what that car has...looks like two deuces, staggered)...same color, but the windows were DARK (illegal and definitely not stock) It was pretty cool since I always loved the road runner cartoons....and the horn even went MEEP, MEEP.

Fun fact: They had a RAM AIR version that was called the "Coyote Duster." Three Deuces...lol

Sadly, I foolishly sold it....I got about 6k out of it after paying five and today they are worth 20-30k+
